North Portsea Coastal Scheme update – 11 April 2025

Rock it, man!

Embankment

Rockwork nearing completion

You may have seen the vast progress we are making in placing rock all along the shoreline of Ports Creek. We are now at over 75% of rockwork completed. You may recall we have used surplus rock from our sister scheme in Southsea, with addition of some rock from Cornwall. So far we have placed around 10,000t of rock.

An embankment you can bank on

First area of embankment constructed

Further east, towards the previously completed phase 1 at Anchorage Park, the team have now started work on the full-height embankment near the railway bridge – and it is going well! This work includes adding an earth bund to the rock revetment toe, giving this sea defence structure the required defence height. Eventually, this will have a path added and will be covered in wildflowers on the upper part and marine plants, such as saltmarsh, growing over the rock. (you can see an illustration of a typical cross section below)

In this particular area it is also great news as it ‘closes the gap’ between the already completed embankment and the railway bridge, which will help the water quality of the moat as it stops potential salt water flooding.

Social spot at Phase 4

Our survey asking for feedback on our completed phase at Eastern Road is still open (until 17 April)

We hope you have had a chance to walk along our previously completed sea defence stretch at Eastern Road and noticed the many enhancements we introduced. If you can spare a few minutes, please follow the link below to fill in a short survey – we would love to hear your thoughts!

Hilsea Lido work going swimmingly

Hilsea lido update

Recently the redevelopment of Hilsea Lido reached a milestone with the successful completion of the pool testing phase, marking a major step towards the reopening in early autumn.

Filtration equipment has been installed in the newly renovated plant room, and the team are preparing the pool for the next stages of rendering, painting and tiling.

This week the team have started to erect a large scaffold tent over the 67m pool to protect it from the elements while they apply the finishing touches.
