Update on Peronne Road footbridge closure

Footbridge remains closed

The temporary overpass we are providing to minimise disruption during our work is currently pending final approval to ensure it is safe to use.

The footbridge will remain closed until further notice.

Please follow the official diversion routes indicated by signage near the bridge and on the information boards.

We understand that this causes disruption for many residents and we are working hard to reopen as soon as possible. We will provide an update on the new reopening date to provide a shorter route once it has been confirmed.

Enabling works around railway bridge underway

Once Peronne Road footbridge has reopened, we will close the footbridge near the railway bridge further east for the duration of the flood defence work.

In preparation for work starting here, the access route on the north side of the moat underneath the railway will be closed off to the public from Monday, 20 January 2025. This will allow for preparatory work and material delivery to the construction area to raise the flood defence level either side of the railway.

Please use the short diversion on the south side of the moat.

Change of rock

From Norwegian to Cornish rock

You may remember we told you in a previous update that we have used surplus rock from the Southsea Coastal Scheme. All rock that was available has now been placed, so we are carrying on with rock sourced from Cornwall.

The above picture shows the first area of ‘Cornish rock’ placed at the bottom (where the black geotextile can just be seen peaking out from underneath). If you look closely you can see a slight difference in colour.

Over time, the colour difference will not be noticeable. Other elements of the work, such as the saltmarsh habitat on the rocks will be more visible than the difference in rock colour.

Update on work at Hilsea Lido

Our neighbouring Hilsea Lido project is well underway! Contractors Beard have been working on site to restore this cherished pool to a high standard. The pool will be completely revamped, as well as landscaping the area and installing state of the art filtration equipment.

If you have walked near the area you’ve probably noticed the hustle and bustle of work being carried out. Recently the modular shower units (pictured above) have been installed, which highlights just how bright the area will be once finished. The pool has been completely concreted, bringing it up to its new depth of 2.6m as its deepest, as well as the restoration of the lagoons.
