Have yourself a merry little milestone

As we reach the end of another busy and productive year at Ports Creek, we want to wish all our residents, partners and supporters a warm and restful Christmas. Your feedback, patience and understanding have made a huge difference throughout 2025, and we cannot wait to be entering the new year and the final stretch of the North Portsea Coastal Scheme.
By summer 2026, perfectly timed with Portsmouth 100 celebrations, we expect to complete the scheme, ensuring the north of Portsmouth is protected from the risk of flooding for the next 100 years. It’s a milestone we’re incredibly proud to be delivering with you.
Stats the spirit!

Our year review in numbers (sleighing it)
2025 has been a year of big numbers and even bigger achievements.
Some highlights include:
- 121,000 hours of work, that’s almost 14 years of continuous effort
- Around 65 different pieces of machinery used across the site
- Nearly 14,000 tonnes of rock placed, equal to 14 million bags of sugar, if laid end to end would be enough to stretch from Portsmouth to Berlin and back!
- Over 25,000m³ of earth in our embankments, this would fill more than 10 Olympic swimming pools
- Nearly 600 million seeds hydroseeded, covering 2¼ Fratton Parks
- By project end, over 75,000 tonnes of rock and earth will have been imported, that is heavier than seven Eiffel Towers
Thank you for bearing with us through every digger, dumper and diversion.
O come, all ye diversions
Temporary bridges to be removed
A quick look ahead to early 2026: The two temporary footbridges, installed to shorten pedestrian routes during construction, will be removed in the new year and we need to briefly close them to do this.
Peronne Road temporary bridge
- Closing for dismantling from Monday 19 January 2026
- Expected closure: up to 3 weeks, but we will reopen earlier, as soon as it is safe to do so
- Diversions will be in place (see map)
- Once removed, Peronne Road footbridge will remain open for the rest of the work (with a manned level crossing in place which will close occasionally for a few minutes for site vehicles to cross the bridge.)
London Road temporary bridge (Portsbridge roundabout car park)
- Closing for dismantling from 6 March 2026
- The footpath along the car park will reopen at the same time, providing a shorter route
- Occasional short closures may be needed for slipway work, but we will give advance notice
Thank you in advance for your patience as we complete this final phase.
Silent Nights…

Wishing you a safe and happy Christmas
It’s been a fantastic year, and we are grateful for every conversation, suggestion and kind word from residents. We are excited to bring the project home in 2026 and deliver a safer, stronger coastline for Portsmouth’s next century.
