Tree planting complete
This week saw the final planting of the new native trees at our completed phase at Eastern Road. This means that over 200 trees have been planted in this phase. We can’t wait for spring 2025, when all the newly planted trees have started to establish and wildflowers are in full bloom. It will be a great place to walk along the coast, or simply sit and enjoy nature.
Footbridge closure postponed
Peronne Road footbridge closure now planned for New Year
In our last update we shared the planned date in December for the upcoming closure of Peronne Road footbridge. Unfortunately, due to some delays in material deliveries this has now been postponed to the New Year, likely to happen in January. Once we have the new date confirmed, we will of course let you know. The image shows an aerial of Peronne Road and bridge. You can see the ramp for site traffic to move from East to West is almost completed.

Reptile fencing near Ports Creek
Remember our reptile rescue mission? The environmental team ventured out all summer in preparation for our sea defence work, capturing over 90 reptiles (mainly slow worms and some common lizards) and moving them in to safe zones. You may have been wondering how we ensure that they stay in their designated zones. The image shows some of the reptile fencing that has been installed all along the area at Ports Creek. An area of almost 9000 m2 has been fenced off (we will try and capture this on a drone image soon) to keep our cold blooded friends safe for the duration of our work.
Be part of the people’s history
You may have seen that Hilsea Lido, just across the road from our phase 5 is being redeveloped. We put out fortnightly updates out on our newsletter, but also on social media.
We’ve loved reading the comments on our posts, but now we want to dive even deeper!
We are asking people to share their stories and photos with us and help create a ‘People’s History’ of this beloved spot. There are already famous photos of the lido in books and online – now it’s your turn to make your memories part of that history!
Did you work there, or spend your summers swimming, laughing, or even falling in love at Hilsea Lido? Maybe you learned to swim there, remember the friendly faces of the staff, or even were part of the film Tommy? We’re especially keen to hear from anyone who worked there…maybe you were a lifeguard or maintenance staff. Selected individuals will have a chance to view the newly refurbished lido before it’s open to the general public!
Whatever it is, we want to hear from you!
