After every storm…

The rainy weather continues and with storm Benjamin rolling through our earthworks have slowly transformed into mudworks (or waterworks..). While our team on site are well-equipped in their safety wellies, these conditions are far from ideal for building embankments.
Unfortunately, this means we are now facing delays to our planned programme. Even with additional weekend working, we will not be able to complete in time for Christmas. Our revised forecast is now for completion in mid-January 2026.
We really appreciate your patience and understanding – thank you for bearing with us just a little longer!
Silver linings… or green ones!
Whilst the construction team is not thrilled about the recent rainfall and soggy site conditions, our environmental team is delighted. Thanks to the mild October temperatures and wet weather, the first areas of hydroseeded embankment have started to sprout.
The image shows a stretch that was seeded just a few weeks ago and it’s already turning green. As the grasses grow, they’ll form roots and a natural cover over the embankment, helping to stabilise the structure and prevent wash-off during heavy rain.
That might just bring a smile to the construction team too…
Reed between the Lines…
Near the eastern end of our site, the amphibious excavator is making steady progress on the moat water quality improvement works. The first areas have now been carefully dredged and if you have walked past recently, you may have caught a whiff of the years-old silt we have brought to the surface (do not worry, it will disperse soon).
The image shows reeds that have been relocated to form new reedbeds in the foreground. While they may look a little dishevelled right now, they will soon settle, grow new roots, and establish a healthy reedbed. These will help filter the water and redefine the edges of the historically significant Hilsea Lines moats, supporting both habitat and heritage.
