Peronne Road footbridge closure update
Footbridge remains closed
Peronne Road footbridge remains closed until further notice.
Designers and Engineers are working hard to ensure that all the safety checks have been carried out to enable Peronne Footbridge to be opened as soon as possible; including working over this weekend. We understand this impacts on many residents who rely on the footbridge for their daily commute and we are working tirelessly to reopen the bridge as soon as possible. We apologise for the disruption this continues to cause whilst the overpass is still undergoing final health and safety checks to ensure the safety of all our residents, which remains our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.
Rocking the progress
The rock revetment is progressing nicely, as we are working in two areas: near the Portsbridge roundabout and further east, near Peronne Road footbridge. As explained in one of our last updates, the nutrient rich foreshore material that is excavated is kept and then as soon as possible (within a day or two) placed on top of the new rock revetment. The aim is to promote saltmarsh growth and provide habitat for wildlife.
Bird boxes flying in
20 nesting boxes to be installed
Just in time for spring we are now starting to install 20 bird nesting boxes in the Ports Creek area. These boxes are made of wood-concrete, a sustainable alternative to traditional concrete: a building material that combines wood fibers, cement, water, and aggregates to create a durable and eco-friendly option for our feathered friends.
Seal of approval
Today we spotted another exciting wildlife visitor: a seal visiting our site to check on progress.
The photos taken from our office building near Portsbridge roundabout are not the best, but you can just about see this lovely little fella swim around our silt curtain and peeking out to see the rock revetment taking shape.
