Slipway taking shape
The slipway near Portsbridge roundabout is taking shape as our flood defence enhancements progress. The concrete pours for the stabilising walls on either side are now complete, and work has moved on to installing steel reinforcement for the raised slipway.
In the photo, you can see the “rebar” cages being carefully positioned. These cages will soon be encased in concrete to form a robust, raised slipway, ensuring the correct defence height to protect the area from potential flooding.
Baskets of progress: first gabions installed
We’re excited to share that the first gabion baskets have been installed along the causeway crossing the moat near the railway bridge at Ports Creek. As part of our ongoing sea defence work, these sturdy baskets (filled with rocks) are set to strengthen the barriers and protect against flood risks. Their successful installation marks an important milestone, reinforcing our commitment to safeguarding Portsmouth’s coast – which will soon feature Kingfisher tunnels, one of the many environmental enhancements planned for this area.

Our contractor Knights Brown is proud to announce that two of its outstanding team members have been nominated for prestigious awards at the upcoming Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Southern Lunch & Awards ceremony.
Tom Lawrence (left) has been put forward for the Outstanding Contribution Award, while Tom Lewis (right) has been nominated as the Most Promising New Entrant Trainee Civil Engineer. Both Toms are part of the team currently delivering the sea defence work at Phase 5 in Portsmouth.

The brand-new King George V Football Complex, a short walk away from our offices, has been nominated for a prestigious SECBE Constructing Excellence award in the ‘Integration and Collaborative Working’ category!
The Portsmouth City Council led project was carried out in partnership with the Football Foundation, to support the development of youth and adult football in Portsmouth. Managed by Hampshire FA, it provides a new football complex that enables people to play football, whatever the weather, in the north of the city.
