Silt curtain installation complete
The next step of preparation for the upcoming engineering work at Ports Creek is complete as the team installed the silt curtain along the creek this week. In the image you can see how a barge pulls the curtain into position.
The curtain has a floating top which allows it to rise and drop with the tides and ensures that water quality is not affected by containing any sediment and silt that may be stirred up by construction activities taking place.
Peronne Road footbridge closure
Construction of a temporary overpass over Peronne Road bridge will start week commencing 2 December 2024. The footbridge will stay open during the early stages of construction, but will close for up to 3 weeks from 16 December 2024.
Following this closure, the overpass will remain in place for the duration of the project, allowing site traffic to move east to west, whilst maintaining pedestrian access to the footbridge.
A diversion will be in place and signposted on our information boards and signage near the footbridge.

Legato blocks deliveries for ‘haul road’ across Peronne Road
In order to transport materials and equipment across the extensive works area safely and efficiently, we are constructing a ‘haul road’ from west to east over Peronne Road.
To build this haul road, large concrete Legato® blocks are used as a retaining structure where the route ramps up and down. We will need 166 blocks weighing over 2 tonnes each to construct a ramp to the east side of Peronne Road footbridge – the image shows the blocks already installed on the west side).
These blocks will have to be delivered through Peronne Road with a lorry able to lift and place the blocks. Once these blocks are delivered and in place, the haul road will be operational for the remainder of the project and we do not expect any further large deliveries through Peronne Road
Deliveries will be restricted to fall outside of 8 – 9 am and 3 – 5 pm, keeping disruption to a minimum and a road sweep will be undertaken at the end of every delivery day.

In the early stages of work commencing at Ports Creek, two of our site team were walking the perimeter when they thought they saw a fox – which turned out to be Molly the dog who had been missing for over two weeks and her owners were desperately trying to find her.
The team went above and beyond to look after Molly as her owners commented: “Just to say a massive thank you to the team working on the sea defences at Hilsea, for helping with the safe recovery of missing dog Molly. Having seen her in their site, they went above and beyond to help keep her safe, fed and monitored on camera.
Molly is now safe and back home where she belongs after her two-week adventure in Hilsea. We really appreciated your help and support.”
