Recent updates at Ports Creek highlight the continued transformation of the area as part of the North Portsea Coastal Scheme. Newly installed handrails have replaced temporary fencing along the section near the railway, reflecting the raised ground levels introduced to strengthen flood protection. Visitors can now enjoy improved access alongside a fully established Flex MSE living wall, complemented by new picnic and viewing benches that create an inviting space to stop and take in the surroundings. Additional handrailing has also been added near the site offices, with temporary scaffolding soon to be removed as construction progresses.
Behind the scenes, important groundwork is shaping the future landscape. Coir rolls made from natural coconut fibre have been installed to stabilise soil and prevent erosion, while carefully prepared path foundations are now ready for the addition of Breedon gravel, ensuring durable and accessible routes. Elsewhere, temporary haul roads are supporting construction activity, enabling heavy machinery to operate efficiently. Across the scheme, wildflower planting is beginning to flourish, bringing colour to the coastline while supporting biodiversity and creating valuable habitats for pollinators. Together, these features are helping to deliver a resilient, attractive and nature-rich environment for the community to enjoy.
