As Sir David Attenborough celebrates his 100th birthday, it’s a timely reminder of our shared responsibility to protect the planet for future generations. The North Portsea Coastal Scheme reflects this long‑term vision, combining engineering innovation with environmental restoration to safeguard residents, wildlife and green spaces from the growing impacts of climate change and rising sea levels. Designed to provide protection for the next century, the project is part of Portsmouth’s wider story as the city celebrates 100 years of city status and a proud history of caring for its people and places.
Across the scheme, progress continues at pace. At Ports Creek, the Flex MSE wall has reached its full height and will soon transform into a natural-looking living wall once seeded with wildflowers, while new accessible pathways, planting and safety features are being added. Elsewhere, carefully compacted earthworks are strengthening coastal defences, and completed improvements at Kendall’s Wharf have already reopened to the public. Work is also advancing along the Milton coastal path and has recently begun at Tipner, where upgrades to paths and public spaces are underway. Together, these improvements are helping to create a safer, greener and more resilient coastline for everyone to enjoy.
